Tuaran: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor believes the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan will restore and strengthen the State’s economy. He said this is needed to execute holistic progress for more inclusive, balanced and fair growth.
“I am confident this government is capable of making changes, reducing the unemployment rate, eradicating poverty and, of course, providing comfort to all people, God willing,” he said.
He was speaking at a breaking of fast ceremony and handing over of Ramadan contributions at the Tuaran district level at Masjid An-Nur, Sunday. According to Hajiji, the state and national economies are still recovering from the pandemic three years ago and Sabah is very fortunate since it is still able to record its highest achievement in State revenue collection. He said the State Government’s proud accomplishment is the result of hard work and tenacity on the part of civil servants who are committed to the development of the State.
“We will continue to work hard and strive to strengthen the State’s finances in accordance with the SMJ Direction’s policy. For that, the State Government will continue to implement strong and investor-friendly policies aimed at attracting more investors to come and invest in the State.
“When the number of investors’ increases, the spin-off effects on the State’s economy will also increase, because job and business opportunities will be wide open for local children to seize,” he said.
Hajiji said since the country struggled with the Covid-19 pandemic until last year, the State Government had approved investment from the economic sector worth RM11.5 billion involving 89 projects that could generate 4,566 jobs.
With the addition of the integrated green steel project worth RM19.6 billion in the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park that was signed last November and several other investment projects currently being implemented, Sabah would receive total of foreign and domestic direct investment amounting to RM33.4 billion.
He stressed that defending the lives of the people is one of the government’s big agendas.
It is very concerned about any issue related to assistance to the needy such as orphans, disabled people, underprivileged and converts.
Therefore, in addition to fasting, they are also required to increase charity and help the needy.
“In addition to the aid contribution from the government, I strongly encourage any government agency, government-related company or private company and non-governmental organization to extend help and donations to the less fortunate. This is to enable them to enjoy this festival together with everyone else.
“The hosting of the ceremony with 200 people receiving aid also proves the government’s concern and sense of responsibility to help the less fortunate to reduce the burden of managing expenses and welcome Syawal with a sense of joy and cheerfulness,” he added.
Ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hajiji called on the people to always adopt a modest attitude in spending so as not to waste.
“By being thrifty, it will strengthen the family’s economy and as a preparation for future needs, such as children’s education,” he said.
