PETALING JAYA: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has ridiculed his predecessor, Wee Ka Siong, for using the airasia Super App to check the prices of Malaysia Airlines flights from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau, Sabah.
Loke said the MCA president should have used the Malaysia Airlines mobile app or website to check on its ticket prices rather than a third-party app.
“As a former (transport) minister, he should know that Malaysia Airlines has its own app. It’s like wanting to buy KFC but instead going to McDonald’s. It doesn’t make any sense,” he said at a press conference here.
The minister told Wee not to confuse the public by giving them misleading information and to instead educate them on being smart consumers by comparing prices to score the best deals.
The pair were engaged in a back-and-forth yesterday over high airfares for domestic flights after Wee claimed that a Malaysia Airlines economy class return ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau on April 20 would cost RM3,138.
Loke then said those tickets were for business class, not economy. In response, Wee took to Facebook to show that checks on the airasia Super App showed that a two-way Malaysia Airlines economy class flight from KL to Tawau would have cost RM3,138.
Meanwhile, Loke invited Wee to join him in sending off passengers flying from KL to Tawau at 10pm this Thursday, adding that the Ayer Hitam MP could interview them about their flight tickets.
“This is the date (April 20) that he mentioned, therefore this is an open invitation for him to send off the 10pm (Malaysia Airlines) flight,” the minister said.
