Kota Kinabalu: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sabah Director Georgie Abas did a walkabout at Servay Putatan, Monday, and announced the State-level Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Puasa 2023. He said as many as 21 daily necessities were listed as price-controlled items under the scheme which is put in place as a way to control the cost of commodities during the Aidilfitri celebration and to guarantee supply in the market.
This scheme’s implementation is also part of the Government’s efforts to control prices when demand is anticipated to rise, so Malaysians of diverse races, religions and culture can take advantage of the scheme in a joyful and peaceful manner.
This year’s SHMMP for Aidilfitri will be effective from April 15 to April 30. There will be a 16-day implementation period - seven days prior to the festival, two days during the festival and seven days following the festival.
The maximum price for chicken and eggs is also used to control poultry and egg prices.
The items are imported buffalo meat (India), tomatoes, red chilli (Kulai and Minyak), imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, not including Beijing cabbage), long beans, mustard green, cucumber, imported red onion, large yellow onion (Holland), garlic (China).
Indian red onions (ros), Indian red onions, imported potatoes (China), curly dry chilli, peanuts, imported old ginger, coconut (wholesale only), grated coconut (retail only), Ikan Kembung and Ikan Mabung (weight between eight to 12 fishes for each kilogramme), Ikan Selayang (weight eight to 12 fishes for each kilogramme), Ikan Demudok. Cermin, Sagai or Cupak (weight three to five fishes for each kilogramme).
Georgie said his officers will always be in locations that are the focus of the shopping public such as public markets, farmers’ markets and supermarkets to carry out inspections and monitoring every day.
At the same time, prudent enforcement is also implemented by providing education, advice and warnings to traders to comply with the law in force and practise ethical trading.
“A total of 244 premises have been inspected throughout Sabah under the scheme and no case action has been produced,” said Georgie.
For the last SHMMP (Chinese New Year 2023), a total of 1,292 inspections were carried out and one case was produced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Price Marking of Goods and Service Charges) 2020 with a confiscation value of RM35 and a compound value of RM100.
