A UNIVERSITY of Malaya (UM) student has recently posted a
TikTok video of a “remarkable” course the university offers.
While browsing courses on UM’s website, the TikToker using the @neydiawang handle, stumbled across a subject titled “Nasi Lemak and the Food System.”
Garnering significant attention on
TikTok, netizens expressed their amusement over the availability of such a subject.
Some could not help but make funny jokes at the course’s expense.
It was made to understand that the course is open to all UM students who want to study additional subjects outside their primary major.
Referred to formally as Student Holistic Empowerment (She), she was reported as saying that students completing their bachelor’s degree must choose four subjects from the programme.
However, as much as she is curious about what the course entails, she has decided to enrol in other subjects that are more related to the course she is studying – international and strategic studies specialising in anthropology and sociology.
A check on UM’s official website, the “Nasi Lemak and the Food System” subject is offered by the university’s Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS).
IAS prides itself as Malaysia’s first postgraduate and advanced research institution within a university, providing facilities for multidisciplinary studies.
