Female climber 3rd Mount Kinabalu rescue case in April
Mosar personnel carried the victim down to Timpohon Gate before being sent to the hospital.
RANAU: Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) personnel rescued a female Mount Kinabalu climber who suffered leg injuries on Monday.

Head of Fire and Rescue Ranau Station, PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib, said the incident happened at Panar Laban of Mount Kinabalu at about 10.30am.

According to him, information was received from Malim Gunung through the Station Line regarding the incident and a group of six Mosar personnel rushed to the location led by the Operations Commander, PBB Maurice Ubin.

“Arriving at the location about 100m away from the Mosar post, the group comprising Sabah Parks personnel found a 26-year old female climber who suffered a sprained right ankle.

“The initial treatment was given by the Mosar team together with Sabah Parks personnel applying sports oil to the injured area and wrapping it with a bandage.

“The rescuers then carried the victim down to Timpohon Gate at the victim’s request,” he said.

Ridwan added that the case on Monday became the third case for the month of April 2023 and it also marked the 18th victim on Mount Kinabalu so far this year.

In January, two climbers had to be rescued, five in February and March (eight).

Ridwan repeated his advice for future climbers to do a self-health assessment before climbing Mt Kinabalu.

He said there must be a mental and physical preparation, and only bring along suitable and necessary items.

“Always climb in groups, don’t walk alone and make sure to be attentive to what the guides advise us.

“This is important in order to avoid any untoward incidents future,” he said.
