Four hurt in Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu mishaps

Tuaran: Two men were injured after the vehicles they were travelling in were involved in an accident along Jalan Tamparuli-Ranau near the junction of Kampung Kauluan, Tamparuli here, last Monday.

In the incident at 5.50pm, the victim identified as Jayreed Sikidol, 36, who was driving a Proton Saga FLX car and the lorry driver, Voo Yun Von, 71, were sent to Tuaran hospital for treatment.

Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar, said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5.54pm.

He said a total of nine people including officers rushed to the location with one machine and one utility vehicle of the Emergency Assistance Unit (EMRS).

“Upon arrival, a male victim (the Proton Saga FLX driver) was found stuck before being successfully removed using special equipment.”

“The lorry driver was also injured and extricated with the help of the public before the arrival of the fire brigade,” he said.

According to him, the two victims then received initial treatment before being sent to Tuaran Hospital for further treatment. “The operation was then terminated at 6.25pm after ensuring that the vehicle  involved and that there was no other risk of danger at the scene,” he said.

Abdul Qawie said the cause of the accident and the total losses were still under investigation.

Meanwhile, in KOTA KINABALU, a lorry driver and his attendant sustained slight injuries when their 6-tonne lorry skidded and keeled over at Jalan Tuaran bypass near the University Apartments, Tuesday. The lorry was from Tuaran heading towards Manggatal when the 5pm accident happened. The lorry driver, in his 40s, was believed to have lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a Proton which was making a U-turn towards KK from Tuaran. The Proton car continued its journey safely. The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along the stretch.
