Kota Kinabalu: The acquisition of 25 per cent of Sabah’s equity in Petronas Chemical Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd (PC FSSB) will be able to accelerate the three thrusts of Sabah’s development under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) policy.

Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) Sabah Secretary-General Datuk Edward Linggu said the equity percentage is one of the five enablers to achieve the five-year term of the 2021-2025 SMJ.

“The percentage of equity is one of Sabah’s interests in Petronas that we have been fighting for all this time,” said the Chairman of the Sabah Rubber Industry Board (LIGS).

Linggu, a former Tamparuli Assemblyman, was responding to the announcement by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor about Sabah’s acquisition of equity in PC FSSB.

Linggu is optimistic that with the acquisition of the equity, Sabah will be able to boost the agricultural, industrial and tourism sectors along with infrastructure facilities for the wellbeing of the people.

“According to him, Sabah under the leadership of Hajiji in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government is now on a clear path and starting to achieve what Sarawak has achieved based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Linggu further expressed gratitude for the continued support of the media in disseminating information related to Sabah’s efforts to claim federal financial rights under MA63.

“The media plays an important role in highlighting the voice of the people of Sabah so that it is heard by the federal leaders,” he said in a meeting with Kota Kinabalu Journalists’ Association (KKJA) President Jimmy Goh.

Also present was Star’s Acting Deputy President Datuk Stephen Teo who is also KKJA’s Advisor.
