Tuaran: A 44-year-old man died after consuming suspected weed poison at a rented house in Kg Bantayan, Tamparuli, on April 24. He had earlier WhatsApped to a friend to inform him of his plan.
Tuaran District Police Chief, DSP Noraidin Ag Maidin, said he received a call regarding the incident at about 10.30am, on Monday.
Police received a report from the victim’s 36-year-old younger brother after being informed that the victim was pronounced dead at Tuaran Hospital.
“Acting on the report, a police team found a bottle containing weedkiller at the door of the room occupied by the victim.
“The material (the bottle) was taken to the Tuaran District Police Headquarters (IPD) for investigation,” he said. According to Noraidin, there were three rooms in the house and one of them was rented by another.
At the time of the incident, the victim was alone while the friend returned to Kg Bambangan, Tamparuli.
“A 39-year-old male witness who was in Kg Limbungan, Tamparuli, received a message via ‘WhatsApp’ from the victim at 6.22am (on the day of the incident).
“The victim said he had drunk poison and the witness went to the scene of the incident and found the victim lying on the bed.
“The witness rushed the victim to the Tuaran hospital but he was confirmed dead,” he said.
Noraidin said investigations are on-going to identify the cause of death and so far, the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR).
