KENINGAU: An apparently healthy newborn girl was found behind a four-wheel drive vehicle in the interior Sook district.
The baby, with its umbilical cord intact, was found wrapped in red plastic at 12.30pm on Tuesday (April 25), said Keningau Police Chief DSP Nor Rafidah Kasim in a statement on Saturday (April 29).
She said police received a report regarding the incident at 4.40pm, informing them that a baby was found in the village of Kampung Susulat in Sook.
She said the baby was still attached to the umbilical cord and it was found in the open rear of a four-wheel drive vehicle.
“The complainant then brought the baby inside the house before taking it to the Sook Health Clinic for treatment,” she said.
The baby is in stable condition and has since been sent to Keningau Hospital for further observation, she said, adding that the case was being investigated for abandoning a child under Section 317 of the Penal Code.
Those with information related to the case can contact investigating officer Inspector Ho on 014-630 4299, she added.
