RANAU: A woman claimed to have been secretly recorded by a man with a mobile phone camera while using a public toilet near here recently.
Ranau District Police Chief DSP Simiun Lomudin said the incident happened at a Petronas station near the town at 12.50am last Saturday.
“At the time of the incident, the complainant and her husband were on the way from Lahad Datu to Kota Kinabalu and had stopped at the station for a short rest and to use the toilet.
“According to the complainant, while urinating, she realised suspicious movement on the top wall of the toilet and was shocked to see a phone camera recording her,” he said.
Simiun added that the complainant then rushed out of the toilet and identified the suspect.
“With the help of the complainant’s husband, the suspect was taken to the Ranau Police Station and handed over to the police while the complainant made a report related to the incident.
“Based on the report, we have opened an investigation paper and re-arrested the man.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 8(1)(e) of OKKNS,” said Simiun.
He advised the public to be always wary of irresponsible and immoral individuals and cooperate by immediately channelling any information related to crimes, traffic accidents or misconduct activities to the police.
