Kota Kinabalu: Some 80 archers took part in the Coach Paul Leong Cup tournament held at the Sukma field in Likas recently.
The four-day competition organised by Kota Kinabalu District Archery Association (KKDAA) had attracted participants from all ages including Para athletes from Kota Kinabalu, Sipitang, Kota Marudu, Tongod and Ranau.
President Ram Singh, who initiated the event, praised the organising committee and also thanked the parents, coaches and archers for their contribution to ensure the success of the competition.
“The Association has decided to try something out of the box with this tournament to encourage more newcomers and at the same time prepare the archers for the forthcoming State and national level archery tournaments,” he said.
The event was officiated by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin who urged all Sabah Archery Association affiliates to work together to ensure the success of State archers in the national and international scene.
Also present were the Ministry’s deputy permanent secretary Putera Jali and Sabah Sports Council deputy director Valerie Wong as well as national archer Mohd. Khairul Annuar and former Sabah Archery Association president Datuk Zainie Abdul Aucasa.
