PETALING JAYA: Two instant noodle products pulled from Malaysian shelves last month are safe for consumption, says the health ministry.

Lab analyses done on samples of “Ah Lai White Curry Noodles” and “Indomie: Special Chicken Flavour” found that they are safe to eat and adhere to existing regulations, said health director-general Dr Radzi Abu Hassan.

The two types of instant noodles were recalled on April 26, a day after the Taiwanese health authorities did the same after stating that they contained ethylene oxide — a chemical compound associated with lymphoma and leukaemia.

“The ministry would like to assure the public that products available in the market have gone through the mandated procedures and are safe (for consumption),” said Radzi in a statement.

He added that the health ministry would work with food companies to recall their products if they did not comply with regulations.
