Kota Kinabalu: Sabah nurses are advised to constantly improve their skills and knowledge in various fields and overcome any weaknesses so that efforts towards improving the quality of treatment and medical services will continue.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital (HQE) Director, Dr William Gotulis, said dynamic nurses are not just disciplined and committed to carrying out their duties but always strive to improve their knowledge of current developments and their relationship with medical policies.
He added that building public confidence and trust in organisational services, especially the nursing profession, is not an easy matter.
“Accordingly, every member of care and medicine, especially nurses, must provide the best service through a teamwork approach, empathising with the current situation, being skilled at communicating effectively and always responsive to customer expectations,” he said.
William said this while officiating the 2023 World Nurses Day Celebration and HQE monthly gathering held at the Auditorium, Twin Towers near here on Monday.
Earlier, HQE Chief Nursing Supervisor, Matron Mary Chin, in her welcome speech, said that nurses not only need to maintain ‘soft skills’ including providing quality service while being friendly, efficient, considerate, but also need to be knowledgeable and aware of changes in the environment.
“Therefore every nurse should improve their own skills so that every assignment they are responsible for is always quality and comprehensive and able to provide services according to current medical protocols,” she said.
The 2023 World Nurses Day Celebration Launch Ceremony is themed “Our Nurses, Our Future.”
HQE was also graced with a choir performance and a multimedia presentation as well as a pledge ceremony among nurses and senior hospital officials.
Also present at the ceremony Deputy Clinical Director I, Dr Yogendra Panchalingam, Dr Irene Chau, Deputy Clinical Director II and Deputy Director of the Management Division Jasnawati Jasmin.
