SANDAKAN: Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong hopes police will deal with the issue of mentally unstable individuals in Bandar Kim Fung Batu 4 here. 

He said this after coming across a mentally unstable man (pic) lying next to a knife on a business premises’ pavement on Monday.

According to him, such situations raise concerns regarding public safety, particularly given that it is one of the places with a high concentration of people and that it is a route that the general public, including schoolchildren, use to access transport services.

“I have reported the incident to police in order for them to take action and investigate this individual who poses a danger not only to himself but also to others around him, especially children who are still too young to understand the dangers of approaching those with unsound minds,” he said. 

He hopes the police will act quickly because it concerns not only public safety but also the image of the neighbourhood, with persons of unsound mind sleeping on the pavements and loitering.
