Labourer denies theft and housebreaking in Likas

Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old labourer was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with housebreaking and theft.

Ali Rosli Baru pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to breaking into a house at Jalan Likas, here, along with an accomplice still at large at 1am on May 3, and stealing a safe containing two spare keys of a Mercedes and Camry cars, international passport and Datuk, ASDK and BK medals.

Ali was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and liable to a fine, on conviction.

The prosecution proposed bail at RM8,000 on the grounds that the estimated loss in the case was RM15,000 and for fear that the accused will meet his accomplice again as it was a planned crime.

Jessica set June 14 for mention and released the accused on a bail of RM3,500 in two sureties and ordered him to report to the police station twice a month.

Meanwhile, a lorry driver was charged with assaulting a man with a vegetable knife.

Jumil Luantis, 32, who appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles, was accused to causing hurt to Sanran Kasidi, 36, with the weapon at 11.30pm on April 27, this year in a house at Kg Kepayan Baru, Manggatal.

No plea was taken from Jumil after the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code was read out to him.

The court set June 21 for mention and offered the accused bail at RM1,500 in two sureties.
