KIULU: The people must not be swayed by opposition attempts to blame Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor and the GRS-led State Government for the ongoing power and water problems which were not solved effectively by past administrations.Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai emphasised the need to avoid drawing quick judgements but examine the situation objectively, considering the complexities involved in managing essential utilities.
“The opposition’s swift finger-pointing and attempts to lay the blame solely on the Chief Minister is political. They, too, had previously led the state and are familiar with the challenges.
“The Chief Minister has been working tirelessly to address these issues and ensure that the people of Sabah have access to necessities such as electricity and water.
“It is crucial to acknowledge the continuous significant investments and initiatives undertaken by the current administration to improve Sabah’s infrastructure and ensure a reliable supply of essential utilities,” he said.
Joniston, who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) information chief and Kiulu Assemblyman, was speaking at a gathering of chairmen of PBS branches in a polling district centre (PDM) Kiulu, Thursday.
He pointed out that the recent commitment by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to help resolve Sabah’s water supply issue reflects the Federal Government’s positive stance towards Hajiji’s leadership.
Joniston stressed that Sabah had witnessed a series of positive developments and significant policy reforms, contributing to the wellbeing of the state and its people.
This includes the accomplishments of the State Government under Hajiji’s administration, which recorded the greatest state revenue ever of RM7 billion in 2022 and increase in assemblyman allocation for this year to RM3 million, both of which shows substantial spikes as compared to Warisan’s term in office.
Hajiji’s astute decision-making, commitment to inclusive governance, and focus on driving Sabah’s economic growth have garnered widespread acclaim and support, Joniston added.
He urged PBS members to maintain their unwavering support for Hajiji, strengthen the party’s position as a key team player within the GRS and work collectively with other coalition parties to address the challenges confronting Sabah.
“PBS has long been recognised for its dedication to the welfare of the people, and by maintaining a cohesive stance within GRS, the party can further consolidate its influence and contribute effectively to shaping the state’s future.
“Our (PBS) active participation within the coalition has allowed the party to leverage collective strengths and resources, leading to more effective governance and policy implementation,” he said.
