LONDON: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) established close cooperation with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
The strategic collaboration is able to generate research in the field of infectious diseases, public health and disabilities through the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) documents between UMS and LSHTM, each represented by the Vice Chancellor of UMS, Professor Datuk Dr. Kasim Mansor and Director of LHSTM, Professor Dr Liam Smeeth.
Present to witness the exchange of the MoU document was the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and his wife, Toh Puan Norlidah R.M. Jasni here, last Thursday.
Earlier, both lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK), namely the Director of the Borneo Medical and Health Research Centre, Professor Dr Kamruddin Ahmed and the Head of the Sabah Rehabilitation Research and Service Group, Prof. Associate Dr. Fatimah Ahmedy held a discussion with researchers from the university involved, Professor Dr Chris Drakely and Deputy Director of the International Center for Evidence in Disability LSHTM, Professor Dr Hannah Kuper.
The discussion was led by UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Professor Ir. Dr. Rosalam Sarbatly regarding the importance of carrying out research with the community to get a clear picture of the impact of the study on the local community, intensify efforts to find the best solution to reduce malaria transmission and study access to health care, disability and rehabilitation technology in the State.
