PENAMPANG: Christians in Sabah and Sarawak can continue to use the word 'Allah' in their religious practices, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.
Ewon, also a Penampang MP said, the word 'Allah' can be used in any religious book publication for the purpose of education in the community by labelling 'Untuk Kegunaan Penganut Kristian Sahaja’ (For the Use of Christians Only).
"This issue was discussed at length in the (Federal) Cabinet meeting a few days ago and I participated in the discussion and voiced my views on this issue.
"The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) also opened the space for all the ministers to present their views and the decision is the 'status quo' for Sabah and Sarawak Christians are retained," he said, here, Friday.
He said, this is the existing policy that the Cabinet agreed to continue and while they respect Islam as the official religion of the country, but other religions are also freely practised in peace.
