THE younger generation’s future must be a priority agenda of the Unity Government, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman said the Government needs to address the fears and concerns of the young about their job opportunities today and the challenges of the future.
He also said Sabah’s voice and demands on its rights are not only for Sabah’s interests but based on the commitment to upholding the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“We never take the rights of others, we only demand that our rights be preserved and implemented. There is no question of loyalty to the country, this homeland belongs to us, we live and die for our beloved Malaysia,” he said at the 2023 Unity Government National Convention at the Dewan Merdeka of the World Trade Center (WTC), Kuala Lumpur, on May 14.
He said, Sabah greatly appreciates the Prime Minister’s concern in implementing issues that have been delayed for so long regarding MA63.
“We sincerely hope that the Prime Minister’s high commitment is supported and implemented by all policymakers and implementers of the Federal Government,” he said.
Hajiji said the GRS struggle is in line with the agenda of Building a Civilised Malaysia.
He added that the local struggle is founded on one desire and goal, which is to form unity of all people to move together, in one heart to bring change, to boost the development of Sabah.
“We are sure and believe that a more advanced and successful Sabah will give value and meaning to Malaysia, our beloved homeland.”
Hajiji said GRS is determined to continue to strengthen this idea of unity and invited all friends to continue to step forward in order to raise the people’s agenda through the Unity Government.
“Today our priority is to interpret the ideas inspired by the Prime Minister. We build a civilised Malaysia by raising the agenda of the people. After all, the value and meaning of Malaysia Madani is not only to make this country progress but also to make its people progress.
“The value of progress is not complete if only a number of community groups are advanced and there are still some who are lagging behind, not to mention those who are still living a difficult life.” He said for that reason, GRS welcomes the commitment of the Unity Government to the poverty eradication agenda.
Hajiji said the meaning of progress is also incomplete if the development pace is only concentrated in certain areas and states when there are still states and regions that are suffering from economic and infrastructure backwardness including basic facilities such as water, electricity and roads.
He said GRS hopes that the Federal Government places and elevates the socioeconomic equality agenda of the people and the region as a national agenda in developing a civilised Malaysia. GRS, he assured, is fully committed to the struggle of the Unity Government and the leadership of Anwar.
“We wish the allied parties of the Unity Government great success in the State Elections that will take place soon. If needed by any state and if appropriate and needed, we are ready to help our friends,” he said.
