SESB should have the ability to upgrade
Lui said KKCCCI fully supports the Federal or State governments to take drastic and urgent measures to resolve the water and electricity supply, including constructing dams and power generation plants to resolve these problems once and for all.
Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu Chinese of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) President Datuk Michael Lui Yen Sang wants the government to resolve the water and electricity supply problems in Sabah and not just talk about the problems in the media.

Lui stressed that water and electricity supply problems are affecting the economic development and wellbeing of the people in the State.

“Power and water supplies are the important basic needs in human life. The people will express their disappointment and dissatisfaction if they face shortage of these facilities, and we have been facing these problems for many years,” he said in a statement.

“The government should prioritise the needs of the public first, take immediate decision to prevent these problems from deteriorating and affect the people’s livelihood.”

“We hope the government officers should not just talk about the problems in media, the people need actual action to be taken.

The government should actively intervene in matters such as basic infrastructure, to ensure our state’s water, power and energy sectors are resilient and reliable in providing sufficient supply as well as clean water without any disruption especially during the current weather,” he said.

Lui added that for a making-money corporate like SESB, it should have the ability to upgrade its power supply facility.

“We opine that having electricity supply rationing in several districts is not able to solve the crux of the problem. SESB has to implement short-term measure for example setting up more generators (currently 11 units) as fast as possible to alleviate the hardship faced by Sabahans at this pressing need period,” he said.
