Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old chef has become the fourth organ donor in Sabah this year.
Sabah State Health director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said the late Zeno Linos passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital due to medical issues.
“After the family was informed about the option of organ donation, they agreed to donate the eyes (a pair of corneas) to patients in need.
The cornea donation procedure was successfully performed and transplanted onto two patients at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Both recipients are currently undergoing the recovery process,” she said in a statement.
Dr Rose said Zeno is the fifth child out of seven siblings. The man, who was single, hailed from Kampung Kokol, Menggatal.
“The late donor’s last occupation was as a chef at a restaurant in Kota Kinabalu City Centre.
According to the family, the late Zeno Linos was a devout and kind-hearted child, who diligently helped the family.
He took care of his mother and cleaned vegetables for sale at the market.
“Despite the sadness of losing a loved one, the family is grateful for the opportunity to perform this act of kindness as a sign of God’s love.
They hope to set an example for the community in Sabah regarding organ donation,” she said.
