Bright future for sector but fraught with challenges

Both discussed the status of ongoing Sabah-Petronas collaborations in the State and cross-checking to ensure the CCA signed in December 2021 is on track.
Kota Kinabalu: The future of Sabah’s oil and gas industry is bright but fraught with challenges, according to Senior Vice President, Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), Petronas, Mohamed Firouz Asnan.

“In unlocking its full potential, we need to monetise what have been discovered while we continue to populate the funnel with new discoveries, both of which requires a conducive investment environment, including fiscal incentives and stable policies.

“It also requires us to keep in check the cost of doing business in Sabah in order to extend the economic limit of key hubs to support the tie-backs for future fields.
