Man jailed for threat to hurt mum, sister

Kota Kinabalu: A 47-year-old unemployed man who threatened to injure his mother and sister for not giving him money was jailed eight months.

Edlan Jimluk pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence to Kisfa Jimlok and Kalsom Baih at 2.30pm on June 2 in a house at the Telipok settlement scheme, Manggatal.

The court heard from the prosecution that Edlan had threatened the victims and threw a table at them.

The prosecution said the incident occurred because Edlan’s mother did not fulfil his request for cash.

Unrepresented, Edlan requested a lenient sentence and apologised to his family members, adding that he has a wife and children.

Edlan was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another case, a 22-year-old man was jailed 12 months for stealing cables belonging to a telecommunication company

Jobless Mohd Elmay Emlani admitted to stealing three rolls of cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia at 10pm on June 1 in front of Wisma Kewangan here.

The charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.

The prosecution told the court that the police team together with operation personnel from the company went to the scene following information on underground cable theft.

The police found a man, later identified as Elmay, in one of the manholes belonging to the company, cutting the cable while his two accomplices fled the scene.

Elmay was subsequently arrested.

Elmay, who was represented by a duty counsel, requested leniency as his wife is six months pregnant.
