LABUAN: The authorities here have been commended for not bowing to demands by PAS to cancel the recent performance by Singapore based comedian Kuniaresan Cherinadurai.
However, some quarters feel it was unfair that adult Muslims who had their tickets refunded as this did not happen in other Malaysian cuties that he performed.
‘’It would have been better if Muslim were allowed to decide for themselves as they are not kids to be dictated by PAS,’’ said a Muslim into had his ticket refunded.
Muslims should have been left to decide on their own whether to attend the show,’’ said activist Lau Seng Kiat, who had been vocal against the political party’s objections that Kumar is a transgender and Pro-LGBT.
Nevertheless businesses especially hotels recorded full occupancy as many travelled from elsewhere to see the show.
Outdated ideologies have no place on the island. After all, the party lost its deposit in every election it took part in Labuan,’’ said David Lau.
He sympathised with his Labuan Muslim friends who had their tickets refunded by the Labuan authorities in the revised guidelines for allowing the show.
Referring to the police report lodged by PAS to force the cancellation, he questioned on what basis was it lodged since the performer is not a criminal nor did any of his shows caused a disturbance.
