Kota Kinabalu: The D-Ledger Application System is able to help Sabah women carry out business transactions digitally and more efficiently, said the Minister of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing (KPMKR), Datuk James Ratib.

“The digital wave continues to storm the global community, reaching a scale that has never been reached before and has completely changed the lifestyle of people in all corners of the world.

“If we look at the past 10  years, there have been so many changes that we can see from various aspects whether in terms of the way we interact with each other, the way we study, do business and even the way we monitor our health.

“All this is the result of rapidly developing technology. Therefore, my Ministry through the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) is taking efforts to develop the D-Ledger Application System,” he said.

James said the D-Ledger Application System aims to enable transaction records, income and expenses as well as some business transactions to be handled digitally. It is currently being used by over 300 Jhewa entrepreneurs.

“In line with this development, the State Government has taken proactive steps to accelerate digital transformation efforts, by introducing skills in this field under the development of human capital and people’s well-being as one of the core initiatives of Sabah Maju Jaya,” he said.

“I was informed that a total of 300 guests attended today consisting of skills course participants and women entrepreneurs guided by Jhewa from various districts in Sabah,” he said.

James added he always supports and calls on all women entrepreneurs to always take opportunities and respond to the government’s recommendations to prepare themselves to move along with the development of technology to be adapted in business so as not to fall behind in the current modernisation trend.

“Apart from skills courses, equipment grant assistance and entrepreneurship promotion programmes implemented by Jhewa, the development of this system is also seen as a trigger towards empowering women.

“This is specifically for single mothers and low-income women who are new or have been engaged in entrepreneurship for a long time in order to strengthen the smoothness and efficiency of business operations,” he said.

Also present were KPMKR Assistant Minister, Datuk Flovia Ng; KPMKR Permanent Secretary, Datuk Sr. Lee Chun Khiong; KPMKR Deputy Permanent Secretary, Maria @ Marcella David Edick, Director of the General Welfare Services Department, Jais Asri; and Chairman of the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council, Datuk Dr Hajah Tarsiah TZ Taman.
