NABAWAN: The collapsed and damaged bridge along the Sansan Ulu Salong road from Simatuoh to Pagalungan is currently under maintenance.
Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yassin said as soon as he found out about it after it went viral through social media, he instructed Nabawan Community Development leader (PPM), Pagalungan Assistant District Officer, Nabawan PWD Assistant District Engineer and Tibow Forestry Officer to inspect the damage. Ghani, who is also Sabah Land Development Board (LKTNS) Chairman, said the road where the bridge is located is in a forest reserve.
“Due to that status, we cannot simply carry out any maintenance as it has to go through certain procedures,” he said.
“However, after discussing with the Forestry Department, we can now do maintenance work on the damaged bridge.”
He also disclosed that one of the reasons for the maintenance delay was the road is not registered as a PWD road.
On the viral video depicting villagers working together to build a wooden bridge recently, Ghani said it was the villagers’ efforts as they wanted a quick solution.
“However, it is a temporary route. Now we have sent machinery to build a more resistant bridge that can be passed safely,” he said.
