Cops bag  TYT Trophy: 8th FCAS Sabah International Dragon Boat Race

Kota Kinabalu: Royal Malaysia Police A captured the Head of State Trophy at the 8th FCAS Sabah International Dragon Boat Race held at Likas Bay on Sunday.

They crossed the finishing line of the 800-metre race in three minutes and 49.89 seconds to take the RM10,000 cash prize ahead of second placed 1SPTB Brunei (03:51.12s) who received RM5,000 and RM2,500 to Asuk Hill D.B.T in third (03:51.48s).

Winning team captain Amirul Azhar was delighted with the win and according to him, it was their debut race for the TYT Trophy and only their second appearance in the competition.

“This is only our second time participating in the dragon boat race here and first time competing in the TYT Trophy.

“We only trained in the peninsula for one month in the lake and to race in the sea, we had to adapt to the wind and strong waves.

“We are really happy to win the top prize and a total of three golds and one silver, while last year we only managed one gold, one silver and one bronze.

“Hopefully, we can come back next year to compete again,” he said after the prize presentation.

Meanwhile, the Sabah Chief Minister Trophy was won by Kampung Sinampuan Lawas A followed by KDKL Dragon Boat and Entulon Family B.

The other top three winners in each of the categories were Royal Malaysia Police C, Al Haddad Maritime Sandakan B, Kampung Nelayan 1 (Sabah FCAS Dragon Trophy); KKCCCI C, Hakka Association Kota Kinabalu Dragon Boat Team A, Wong Clan (Local FCAS Trophy); KKCCCI B, Hakka Association Kota Kinabalu Dragon Boat Team B, Penang Chinese Townhall A (FCAS Trophy-Mix Team); KKCCCI A, PPPPCT B, WSG Bananas B (FCAS Trophy - Men Team); Sibling Performance Team A, Entulon Family C, Lentuong Junior Team (Kinabalu Dragon Trophy - local juniors 15-20); Ulmala Dragon Boat Team B, 1 SPTB Brunie B, Kampung Sinampuan Lawas B (Kinabalu Dragon Trophy - Men Team Open); Royal Malaysia Police E, Royal Malaysia Police F, DBKK Dragon Boat Team B (Kinabalu Dragon Boat Trophy - Mix Team Open); KKCCCI E, WSG Bananas D, Athenians Hakka Dragon Boat Team (Kinabalu Dragon Boat Trophy Malaysian Women); The Federation of Chinese Association Sabah Team B, Penang Chinese Townhall C, The Federation of Chinese Association Sabah Team D (Hua Zong President Trophy).

Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin was present to grace the annual event and also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffery Kitingan representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship  Minister Ginger Phoong, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin, Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, City Police Chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah and FCAS President Tan Sri T.C. Goh.
