PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has again dismissed claims that ongoing investigations involving politicians in the opposition are politically motivated.

According to Bernama, Anwar asked those making such claims to furnish evidence that proved probes by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission or other enforcement agencies were based on “political instructions”.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) president Muhyiddin Yassin had made the claim of political motivation on Saturday over an alleged raid by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) on the home of opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin.

Hamzah is secretary-general of Bersatu and PN.

Bersatu Supreme Council member Saifuddin Abdullah also claimed the raid was a “cheap political stunt” aimed at tarnishing PN’s image.

Hamzah later brushed off claims of a raid on his home in Damansara, saying such allegations were done to defame him ahead of the coming state elections.

Hamzah and other PN leaders had also accused the government of using MACC as a political tool in recent months, after Muhyiddin and other Bersatu leaders were slapped with graft charges.

In March, Muhyiddin claimed trial to four counts of abuse of power involving RM32.7 million. He was also charged with three counts of money laundering amounting to RM200 million.
