Reading interest among Malaysians still low: Arifin

Kota Kinabalu: Reading interest among Malaysians is still low compared to other countries in the world, said State Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

Officiating the Library Week and StoryWalk 2023 at the State Library Headquarters here Saturday, he said a study conducted by e-commerce company Picodi found Malaysians do enjoy buying books, even among the highest in the world at 76 per cent, but the recorded interest in reading is not that high.

“Of the 76 per cent figure, it was found that Malaysians prefer to read fiction with crime and romance elements.
