SANDAKAN: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sandakan will organise Food Carnival from August 25 – 27 at the open space next to the Mydin Hypermarket, here.
The carnival will be held from 4pm to 10pm for three days.
JCI Sandakan President, Mark Mo, said the theme of this carnival is “Little Hong Kong,” which is a nickname for Sandakan.
This is the first major public event organised by JCI Sandakan after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The organisation hopes this carnival will contribute to the post-pandemic economic recovery by stimulating the local food and beverage industry and promoting the local culinary culture.
Some 50 local food vendors will participate in the carnival aimed at attracting at least 5,000 people to enjoy Sandakan’s cuisine.
The carnival’s Organising Committee Chairman, Michael Chang, said the organisation’s members have started visiting major food businesses in Sandakan, inviting them to join the carnival, especially those featuring Sandakan’s specialty foods and brands.
There will be two types of booth rentals available at the carnival, namely small booths of 10 feet by 10 feet and large booths of 20 feet by 20 feet.
The rental fee for a small booth is RM350, while the rental fee for a large booth, limited to only five booths, is RM2,000.
Other than the food, the organisation also wishes to invite some locally manufactured brand merchants to participate, allowing the public to not only indulge in culinary delights but also become more familiar with Sandakan’s local manufacturing.
This carnival aims not only to promote the local culinary culture and stimulate the economy but also to serve as a charitable event.
The organisation will donate a portion of the surplus to Cheshire Home Sandakan.
The organisation urges the public to support this event and invites food vendors and local brands to participate in this “Little Hong Kong” Food Carnival.
