LAHAD DATU: A 36-year-old four-wheel-drive (4WD) driver died on the spot following a collision with two lorries at Km 10, Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan, here, Saturday.
The 11.30am incident involved the 4WD and a Hino lorry travelling in the same direction as well as a tanker lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
District Police Chief ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad said the incident occurred when the 4WD heading to Sandakan from Lahad Datu attempted to overtake a vehicle but collided with the oncoming lorry tanker .
“Initial investigations showed the 4WD entered the opposing lane and collided with the lorry tanker,” he said.
According to Rohan, both drivers were not suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
However, their blood samples were taken for tests.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Rohan urged those who witnessed the incident to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohamad Humaidi at 089-881255 (ext 414) to assist in the investigation.
He also reminded all road users to always comply with road regulations to avoid any mishaps.
