Kota Kinabalu: Some 4,000 peace lovers participated in the 2023 Run for Peace event on Sunday, a non-competitive run which aims to promote a culture of peace within the community.
Organised by non-governmental organisation (NGO) Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Sabah at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Padang Kawad here, the event also advocates for a sustainable planet by promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).SGM Sabah banded together with local NGOs To Earth With Love, Persatuan C.H.I.L.D. Sabah, Sabah Society for the Deaf, Eco Castle at Tame Centre, Sabah
Recycling Associtation (Ripple) and Maribumi Starchtech Sdn Bhd to hold the run, putting into SDG 17 - “Partnerships for the Goals”.
SGM Sabah expressed their sincere gratitude to the NGOs for their extensive support and look forward to more collaborative opportunities with these organisations in the future.
Also present were Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin and Sabah SGM Vice Chairman Lam Choi Sing.
The goal of SGM is to promote the culture of peace, calling for the people to create a peaceful society through moderate ways.
“The “Run for Peace”, while enabling us to enjoy taking part in the activities, also makes us realise the importance of caring for the environment.
“Even as individuals, everyone can take action to contribute to the wellbeing of the Earth. As long as we have the same heart and act in unity, we can definitely make this world a better place,” said SGM Sabah in a statement, Sunday.
