Kota Kinabalu: The opening of new 10Star Cinemas in the State is hoped could motivate Sabah’s film industry players to produce high-quality films.
State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said this after a courtesy call by Melewar Industrial Group Berhad led by its Executive Chairman Tunku Datuk Yaacob Khyra at the former’s office in Menara Kinabalu, here, Monday.
During the meeting, Masidi was briefed on Melewar’s expansion plans in Sabah, including opening three new 10Star Cinema locations in Tawau, Kota Marudu and Benoni, Papar, by the end of this year.
“The new locations will not only provide entertainment but also create job opportunities and training in the cinema operation industry,” he said in a statement, Monday.
10Star Cinemas Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Melewar Industrial) Chief Executive Officer Onn Norshal Hamzah said with the addition of these three locations, 10Star Cinemas will become the largest cinema chain in the State, with a total of six.
During the visit, Tunku Yaacob also informed the Minister about Melewar’s other ventures, including opening an international secondary school in Kota Kinabalu by January 2024.
Also present was MAA Group Berhad Chief Operating Officer Anand Kanagasingam.
