Kota Kinabalu: A 46-year-old Filipina was charged in the High Court here with smuggling in two Filipinas migrants.
Divina Gutierez Sanchez pleaded not guilty before Judge Datuk Faridz Gohim Abdullah to the offence.
Divina was accused of smuggling the undocumented Filipinas aged 25 and 27, at 7pm on Nov 18, 2022, at Kg Ambong, Kota Belud.
The charge, under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrant (Atipsom) Act 2007, is punishable by a jail term of up to 15 years or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Faridz fixed Aug 10 for case management.
Divina was first brought to Sessions Court to face the charge on Dec 30, 2022 but no plea was recorded from her as the offence is under the High Court’s purview.
She was on March 3, this year, granted bail by the High Court following her application for bail in which she was offered bail at RM20,000 with RM10,000 deposited in two sureties.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Nur Faezah Jafry prosecuted while Divina was not represented.
