Kota Kinabalu: The 60-year-old woman who was seriously injured after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Foh Sang, here, on July 4, died on Tuesday.
Agnes Tang Ean Huang succumbed to her injuries at Queen Elizabeth Hospital II at about 7.30pm.
She and a friend, also 60, were walking home to Taman Luyang from the Foh Sang market after buying vegetables when a Vigo knocked her down at the pedestrian crossing.
The 7.10am mishap left Agnes seriously injured.
The 33-year-old Vigo driver was said to be transporting food supplies from Bornion Centre to Damai.
It is understood the driver did not flee the scene as claimed on social media. The man has since been taken to the police station to facilitate investigations.
City traffic police’s SM Morni was at the scene to investigate.
Meanwhile, residents in Luyang urged the relevant authorities to consider building a pedestrian bridge connecting Damai, Foh Sang and Bornion Centre.
“Motorists should stop and give way to pedestrians on a pedestrian crossing, but many motorists opt to speed through without stopping.
“We thus hope the relevant authorities can consider building a pedestrian bridge to prevent such accidents to happen again,” they said.
