Kota Kinabalu: The 2022 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations in Sabah saw a higher number of candidates scoring a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00 compared to the previous year.
State Education Department Deputy Director Mohd Zaini Yanin said a total of 75 students obtained the perfect score in 2022 compared to 60 in 2021.
“The Sabah average CGPA for STPM 2022 is 2.72, a slight increase of 0.01 compared to 2021, which was 2.71,” he said when announcing the 2022 STPM results at Kolej Tingkatan Enam Kota Kinabalu, here, Thursday.
He said the overall performance for 2022 STPM is considered the same as the previous year as the 0.01 difference does not reflect a significant change.
Zaini said Kolej Tingakatan 6 Tawau had the highest number of students with perfect CGPA (eight students), followed by Kolej Tingkatan (six) and Datuk Pengiran Galpam, Sandakan (five).
He said a total of 7,001 candidates sat for the 2022 STPM examinations, of which 6,921 fully passed (98.86 per cent) – a slight increase of 0.26 per cent from 98.60 per cent the previous year.
“In terms of achievement, 324 candidates obtained 5P, while 4,802 obtained 4P and 1,084 obtained 2P. A total of 466 obtained 2P, while 245 scored 1P,” he said.
He said there were a total of 102 government schools involving 106 examination centres during the 2022 STPM.
Zaini said 27 were located in urban areas while 79 were in rural areas, which reflected a 3.24 per cent difference in passing rates.
“A total of 59 schools achieved a 100 per cent passing rate in 2022.
“The 27 exam centres in urban areas achieved a passing rate of 95.30 per cent while the 79 schools in rural areas achieved 98.54 per cent,” he said.
On subjects, Zaini said out of 22 subjects offered in the 2022 STPM examinations, Literature in English recorded a 100 per cent passing rate.
He added that 10 subjects recorded improved passing rates in 2022, with Biology recording the highest improvement of 6.98 per cent, followed by Mathematics (M) with 5.92 per cent and Business Studies (5.59 per cent).
On the performance of Sabah District Education Offices (PPD), Zaini said 11 out 24 PPDs exceeded the State CGPA, namely Sipitang, Kunak, Papar, Tuaran, Semporna, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Beluran, Tawau, Beaufort and Kuala Penyu.
