BEAUFORT: A Prisons Department bus carrying 14 officers caught fire along Jalan Limbawang Bypass, here, on Friday.

Beaufort Fire and Rescue Station Chief Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok said the 2.30pm incident was believed caused by the heat from the vehicle’s brake rotor and pad on the front right side.

He said smoke was billowing from the tyre rim and the fire was quickly extinguished.

“The driver said he sensed a burning smell and stopped the bus by the roadside to check and saw smoke billowing and a fire,” he said, adding the bus was returning to Sabah from Labuan.
