RANAU: The prevailing strong winds all over the state continue to be a problem for residents with another incident when a tree snapped and fell on a house near here on Friday evening.
Head of Ranau Fire and Rescue Station, PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib, said there were no casualties in the incident at the Teachers’ quarters of SMK Mat Salleh Ranau.
“We received a call through the Station Line at 2.20pm, a group of eight personnel led by Operations Officer, PBKII Becket bin Gumat, equipped with an FRT machine rushed to the location.
“Located 1km from the station, we found the fallen tree hitting a semi-permanent house measuring 20X40 feet causing damage to the roof of the house.
“The fire and rescue team acted to cut and remove the fallen tree and ensure that there are no other dangers in the location,” he said, adding no injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, he said although the situation in Ranau is still under control, his department is bracing for any eventuality as a result of the windy condition.
“So far we have received several complaints or reports from the public on the strong wind condition. Since the phenomena began several days ago, there were cases of fallen trees that damaged properties.
“There were reports of more serious cases like house roofs being blown away. We hope that no such occurrence would happen here until the weather improves,” he said.
Ridwan advised the public to keep safe, “and make safety a priority. Restrict other outdoor activities for the time being, and make sure small children are looked after when they are outside.
