Unity Government meets on state polls: CM
The meeting discussed preparations for the coming six state elections and other matters.
CHIEF Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor led the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) delegation to the Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur on July 11.

Hajiji, who is Chairman of GRS, was accompanied by his Deputy Chairmen Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali was also present.

The meeting held at Menara Dato’ Onn, World Trade Centre was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Other top leaders of the Unity Government seen turning up for the meeting include Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman and Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Chief Whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

Also present were Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; Progressive Democratic Party President Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing; Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) President Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup and PKR Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The meeting discussed preparations for the coming six state elections and other matters.

Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan will go to the polls on Aug 12, with nominations set for July 29 and early voting on Aug 8.

During the meeting, the Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council also finalised the distribution of seats for the six state elections on Aug 12.

“(Seat allocations) finalised for all states; only one or two states (with issues) which we discussed and settled tonight. We will give the dates for announcement on candidates (for the polls) in two or three days’ time,” Anwar said.
