Kota Kinabalu: Four new Sabah Fire and Rescue Stations (BBPs) are expected to start operations by the end of this year.
Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sabah Director Abdul Razak Muda (pic) said they are BBP Putatan, BBP Nabawan, BBP Merotai and BBP Pitas, which will provide fire and rescue services to more than 330,000 residents.
“The number of BBPs in Sabah will increase by 25 per cent, from 21 to 28, making Sabah one of the states with the highest number of new BBPs.
“The growing number of BBPs will provide fire and rescue services to more residents in Sabah.
“It is hoped that with the existence of the BBPs, the Department’s response time target can be achieved.
“It is expected to be able to achieve the average target of 80 per cent of the fire brigade’s presence at the scene of an incident in less than 10 minutes,” he said.
According to Abdul Razak, the increase in BBPs will also significantly increase auxiliary firefighters (PBBs) where the number of PBBs will increase 35 per cent from 171 to 261.
“The alignment that has been implemented to some extent opens up job opportunities for the community through PBB staffing and indirectly responds to the Government’s call to ‘Humanising the Public Service to the Community’,” he said at the PBB Commissioning Series 2/2003, here, Tuesday.
Abdul Razak also said five BBPs are currently being upgraded, among them, BBP Semporna, BBP Beaufort and BBP Lahad Datu.
The ceremony involved 53 PBB officers who have completed their course.
The Best Overall Trainer Award went to PBB Muhammad Aiman Abd Aziz, while PBB Hussien Mohd Noor bagged the Best Practical Award and for the Best Theoretical Award went to PBB Alexander Justin.
