Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking syabu repeatedly.
Rosday Danah pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Hassan Amir Shah, Thursday.
Rosday was found taking drugs on May 27 after his urine was tested positive at the police station here.
He has several conviction records for taking drugs.
The offence under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.
After serving the jail sentence, the court ordered Rosday to be placed under police supervision for three years.
Meanwhile, in the Magistrate’s Court, a 29-year-old woman was fined RM800 in default a week’s jail for buying illegal 4D tickets.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie meted out the sentence to Kartina Tapeng.
Kartina had bought four pieces of illegal tickets at 5.45pm on June 10 this year in front of a hardware shop in Donggongon, Penampang.
The court ordered the RM80 seized to be forfeited by the government revenue through prosecution.
Inspector Suzie Kupit appeared for the prosecution.
