RANAU: A gardener cheated death after being crushed by a fallen tree following strong winds in the district, Wednesday.
Head of Ranau Fire and Rescue Department, PPgB Ridwan Mohd Taib said the incident happened in Jalan Jabatan Air Ranau at about 2pm.
“We received an emergency call at 2.22pm and a group of five personnel led by Operation Commander, PBK II KUP Saifudin Jalani along with a fire truck and an EMRS vehicle rushed to the scene.
“Upon our arrival three kilometres from the station, we found that a fallen tree hit a 51-year-old man who was cleaning the garden.
“The victim suffered injury on the waist as a result of being hit by a tree. Firefighters removed the fallen tree and moved the victim using a stretcher. Rescuers also stabilised the victim using a Pelvic Immobiliser,” he said.
Ridwan added that the victim was then sent to Ranau Hospital in an ambulance.
“After ensuring that there is no more danger, the operation was terminated at 3.18pm,” he said.
Meanwhile, he reiterated his call for the public to observe some SOP, especially during the dry and windy season that is plaguing the district right now.
Ridwan told the community to prioritise personal, family and community safety and avoid doing risky activities during this time.
