Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) in Sabah is operating as usual and the availability of Community Wifi still can be enjoyed.

It was responding to reports that hundreds of thousands of students in rural areas were affected by the termination of free broadband services in Sabah.

“MCMC is very concerned about the difficulties faced by students in rural areas and recommends students to use the facilities they provided at PEDi as a suitable alternative for learning and knowledge sharing for the time being.

“It is a conducive place to pursue knowledge and improve digital skills in an increasingly advanced technological era,” he said.

Previously, PEDi was equipped with a Hub and Spoke configuration where it worked as a Hub while the Wifi service now known as Wifi acted as a Spoke.

The Community Wifi is connected to the PEDi via wireless technology and each PEDi is configured with a minimum speed of 20Mbps access shared across Hubs and Spokes.
