Kota Kinabalu: International and Malaysian leaders from various industries and sectors will convene at the Sabah Chinese Economic Conference to be held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on August 23.
Organising Chairman Datuk Philip Yong said the conference, themed “New Starting Point, New Mindset”, is a large-scale brainstorming event aimed at repositioning Sabah by starting afresh and adopting a new mind-set.
He said significance of the event is the combined effort of six business associations, namely Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC), Sabah Maritime Silk Route Research and Advancement Society, Malaysia Maritime Silk Route Research Society, SME Sabah, Sabah Association of Tours and Travel Agents (SATTA) and the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (Sabah branch).
Philip said the organising committee had invited the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, to officiate at the opening ceremony of the conference, as well as the chairman of China’s unmanned aerial vehicle association to share the latest technology and usage of drones that would help industry players in improving their efficiency and lowering costs.
“Sabah’s rich natural resources must be well managed and safeguarded in order to be sustainable,” said Philip. “Hence, Sabah should encourage technological innovation and digital transformation.
“By having in-depth discussion and interaction among experts, corporates and industry players, coupled with the State Government’s policies, we will be able to formulate and implement concrete solutions that will augur well for the future of Sabah,” he said.
Among those involved included MCCC Sabah Branch President Michael Chin, Malaysia Maritime Silk Route Research Society president Prof Datuk Dr Wilson Yong Tung Yung, SME Sabah president Datuk Foo Ngee Kee, POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, SCCC president Datuk Frankie Liew, Yong, and SATTA president Datuk Seri Winston Liaw.
