Kota Kinabalu: A bus driver was charged in the Magistrates Courts here on Monday with four counts of cheating a man a total of RM4,950.
Saidal Saibol, 47, who was facing three counts before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie and one count before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Saidal allegedly cheated Mohd Zuhailie Zalizan by tricking the latter to believe him that he can manage to get his fiancée freed after she was arrested on June 27 and inducing the complainant to hand over a sum of money to him between July 4 and July 10 at different locations.
Each charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years and with whipping and liability to a fine, on conviction.
On the first count, Saidal was accused of cheating Zuhailie of RM500 at 10am on July 4 in a housing area at Putatan, while on the second count, Saidal allegedly cheated Zuhailie of RM3,450 on July 5 and July 12 at Maybank, Putatan Square.
Saidal, on the third count, was alleged to have cheated Zuhailie of RM800 at 9.13pm in a restaurant in Putatan, while on the fourth count, Saidal was accused of cheating the complainant of RM200 at 9.30pm on July 10 at Kota Kinabalu International Airport here.
The court set Aug 24 for pre-trial case management.
Magistrate Stephanie released Saidal on a bail of RM1,000 in two sureties on each of the three counts while Magistrate Lovely offered him bail at RM1,000 in two sureties.
