Kota Kinabalu: A teenage motorcyclist was killed after hitting temporary road barriers placed on the road divider before crashing into two pedestrians – a mother and her son – along Jalan Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)-Sulaman, here, Wednesday.
Kota Kinabalu Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said Al Nazrin, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer following the 7.45am accident.
He died of severe head injuries.
The two pedestrians were also injured after a traffic cone flew and knocked the boy while being dragged by the motorcycle.
The boy suffered a fractured leg and hand while the mother who fell down suffered minor injuries.
Zaidi said both mother and son were being treated at the Sabah Women and Children Hospital in Likas.
He said initial investigations showed the motorcyclist was riding at high speed and had entered the closed-off lane of the road when he hit the barriers.
He said the investigation was still ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
