Kota Kinabalu: Former Petagas Assemblyman James Ligunjang said it would be more beneficial to impose a shorter land lease period on the Nature Conservation Agreement (NCA) before making any long-term commitment.
“A compromise approach by leasing the land for a shorter period of time, such as 10 years, before making a long-term commitment to a company for managing and trading carbon emissions in Sabah would be beneficial to all parties concerned,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
He said leasing the land for a shorter period and periodically evaluating the performance and impact of the NCA would allow a thorough assessment of whether the NCA is achieving its intended goals of addressing climate change and reducing emissions effectively.
