Kota Kinabalu: A restaurant waiter who didn’t return home since Wednesday was found dead at Wisma Kebajikan, Jalan Sembulan, on Friday morning.
City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi bin Abdullah said it was heartbreaking as it was the father who found the body of the 21-year-old lying on the ground while searching for him there.
He said police went to the scene upon receiving a distress call.
“A medical officer from Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH 1) emergency unit confirmed the death at 9.07am on Aug 4. Injuries were found on his left hand which is believed to have broken due to falling from a high place.
The five-storey building had been abandoned for almost seven years. It was believed that the victim climbed to the top where a water tank was stored and fell.
“Police found footprints in the building’s stairwell area and above the water tank area as well as a ‘portable vapor’ left on top of the building (believed to belong to the victim) at the scene,” Mohd Zaidi said.
There were no elements of foul play and no weapon was found. The body was sent for post mortem at QEH 1, Saturday, to determine the cause of death. He said the case was classified as sudden death.
