KUNAK: All recreation centre operators and residents living in coastal areas are advised to be vigilant, following the sighting of a crocodile in the sea near Kg Pangkalan, here, Friday afternoon.
Kunak District Officer Awang Mohd Yusof said community leaders, including village chiefs and JPKK, should play a role by advising their residents to be wary of crocodiles when carrying out activities, including fishing.
He said the presence of crocodiles had been reported in several locations here, including in the Pangi area.
“This matter was brought up in the previous District Disaster and Action Committee meeting where relevant agencies, including the Fire Department, police, Civil Defence Force (APM) and Kunak District Council, carried out regular monitoring in public recreation areas,” he said.
He added that there was an incident where a fish cage belonging to a farmer in Pangi waters was damaged, believed by a crocodile.
On Friday, a 23-second video by “Orang Kunak” about a crocodile swimming near Kg Pangkalan went viral on Facebook.
