PAPAR: Several burglary and car theft cases are believed to have been solved following the arrest of two Filipinos in a raid on a house at Taman Tulip, here, last Saturday.
District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the suspects, aged 27 and 36, were detained in an operation carried out by IPD Papar Criminal Investigation Department at about 4.30pm.
Kamaruddin said the operation was prompted after a police report was lodged by a house owner along Jalan Lama Papar on July 29. The victim lost several household items worth RM4,500.
“Acting on information, police carried out the operation which led to the arrest of the individuals as well as confiscating various items suspected to be from burglaries carried out in Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran.
“Police also managed to seize a Perodua Myvi that was reported stolen in Kota Kinabalu along with a laptop related to the police report received from the victim of the burglary in Papar,” he added.
Following interrogation, he said the suspects had stolen items from several districts.
He also said the men were remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
Kamaruddin advised the public to channel any information related to crime to IPD Papar at 088-912222 or the nearest police station if there is information related to criminal activities.
Meanwhile, in KOTA KINABALU, police arrested two drunk drivers in “Op Mabuk” along Jalan Coastal, last Saturday.
The operation, carried out by the City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, saw 10 drivers breathalysed.
City District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the two individuals involved had exceeded the blood alcohol content limit.
“Both were arrested for further investigation under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“If convicted, they would be sentenced to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years and a fine of not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM30,000,” he said in a statement.
He added that a total of 64 vehicles and 64 individuals were inspected.
“Among the offences was having fancy plate numbers. The individuals were advised to replace them immediately.
“Operations will continue from time to time ‘sniff out’ drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“People are advised to avoid driving while under the influence because such action can inflict harm not only on themselves but also other road users,” he stressed.
The operation, which ended at about 4am, was led by Kota Kinabalu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division Chief DSP Jo Ak Hang involving two senior police officers and 12 personnel.
